8mL BD Vacutainer® Urinalysis Preservative Tube (Red) - Case of 1000

The 8mL BD Vacutainer® Urinalysis Preservative Tube is designed to support high-precision specimen stabilization for routine urine testing. Its conical design not only improves sample recovery but also ensures reliable sedimentation—an essential step in microscopic analysis.

Measuring 16 x 100 mm, the tube features an 8mL fill volume, providing optimal capacity for standard testing protocols. Its size fits seamlessly with most laboratory racks, centrifuge adapters, and automation systems, allowing smooth integration into both high-volume and point-of-care workflows.

To maintain sample viability, the tube comes pre-filled with a preservative solution containing ethylparaben, sodium propionate, and chlorhexidine. This carefully balanced blend acts quickly to inhibit bacterial growth and chemical degradation, allowing for extended stability even when testing is delayed.

The BD proprietary urinalysis preservative maintains sample integrity for up to 72 hours
at room temperature, while the BD microbiology preservative maintains bacterial
viability for up to 48 hours at room temperature to overcome the burden associated
with meeting testing guidelines, and reduce contamination and overgrowth.

The BD Vacutainer® Urine Cup includes an integrated transfer device in the lid,
facilitating the transfer of urine into evacuated tubes for transport, and storage,
thus maintaining a closed urine collection system.

Streamlined Collection. Secure Handling. Reliable Results.

Color-coded with red or yellow conventional closures, the tube enables quick identification and sorting of preserved specimens within the lab. The caps offer a secure, leak-resistant seal, reducing the risk of cross-contamination and preserving sample integrity during storage and transport.

Constructed from transparent medical-grade plastic, the tube allows for clear visualization of urine color, clarity, and particulate matter before processing begins. Its durable build supports centrifugation while withstanding the rigors of everyday clinical handling.

Altogether, the Urinalysis Preservative Tube delivers a reliable, ready-to-use solution for clinicians and laboratory technicians seeking accurate results with less variability. Its thoughtful design and stabilizing chemistry help ensure consistent diagnostics while supporting operational efficiency.

How to Use BD Vacutainer® Urinalysis Preservative Tube (Red)

Set Up the Collection Area Begin with a clean workspace. Ensure the tube is intact, sterile, and properly labeled with the patient's identification. Confirm the cap (red or yellow) is sealed until ready for use.

Collect the Urine Sample Instruct the patient to provide a midstream urine specimen in a clean, sterile collection cup. Always follow your facility’s collection protocol to avoid contamination.

Open the Preservative Tube Carefully remove the conventional cap without touching the inner rim or contaminating the inside of the tube. Keep the cap inverted or placed face up on a sterile surface.

Transfer the Sample into the Tube Use a sterile transfer straw or pipette to draw the urine and gently fill the tube up to the 8mL mark. Do not overfill, as the preservation balance depends on correct volume.

Seal and Mix Re-cap the tube securely, then invert it gently 3–5 times to ensure proper mixing of the urine with the preservatives: ethylparaben, sodium propionate, and chlorhexidine. This step is critical for maintaining sample stability during storage.

Label and Transport Double-check that the tube is clearly labeled. Place it into a biohazard specimen bag along with the necessary requisition paperwork. Store and transport the sample at room temperature, ideally within your lab’s validated holding time (up to 72 hours is common).
