    About 5 Panel Drug Tests

Quick answer: A 5 panel drug test is a rapid screen for five drug classes: marijuana (THC), cocaine, opiates, amphetamines and PCP. American Screening Corp sells it as urine cups, dip cards and oral fluid devices. Many are FDA-cleared and CLIA-waived, and forensic-use-only options are also available. Most rapid devices give results in about 5 to 10 minutes.

This collection groups 5 panel tests for on-site screening, from single-specimen oral swabs to urine cups with built-in adulterant checks. It also includes expanded configurations, such as 15 panel cups and oral swabs with alcohol, for buyers who need to go beyond five classes. Every product is sold wholesale, with bulk case pricing and same-day shipping from Shreveport, Louisiana.

What a 5 panel drug test detects

A 5 panel drug test looks for drug classes, not single substances. Each strip reacts to a parent drug or metabolite at a set cutoff. The cutoffs below are typical urine values. Configurations vary by manufacturer and device, so always check the package insert for the exact lot you order.

Drug class Abbreviation Typical screening cutoff (ng/mL)
    Marijuana (THC metabolite) THC 50
Cocaine (benzoylecgonine) COC 150 (some devices 300)
Opiates (morphine) OPI / MOR 2,000 (some devices 300)
    Amphetamines (d-amphetamine) AMP 1,000 (some devices 500)
    Phencyclidine PCP 25

Oral fluid devices use different, lower cutoffs because saliva holds parent drugs rather than long-lived metabolites. Some panels swap in other drug classes, so confirm the exact panel before you buy.

    Who buys and why

    • Clinics and treatment programs: routine monitoring at intake and during care, with quick results for same-visit conversations.
    • Courts and probation: scheduled and random screens, often using cups with adulterant checks and forensic-use-only options.
    • Employers: pre-employment, random, post-accident and reasonable-suspicion screening under a written policy.
    • Staffing firms: fast onboarding screens across many locations, bought by the case.
    • Collection sites and labs: stocking devices for walk-in clients and for initial screens before lab confirmation.
    • Federally regulated employers: DOT testing has its own rules, covered below.

    Compliance

This section is general information, not legal advice.

FDA 510(k) clearance. Many rapid drug tests have FDA 510(k) clearance for their intended use. Check the product page and insert to see which devices are cleared.

CLIA-waived vs forensic-use-only. CLIA-waived tests are cleared for use in waived settings by trained staff. Forensic-use-only devices are not cleared for clinical diagnostic use. They are common in legal and workplace programs, so match the device to your setting.

Confirmation. A rapid result is presumptive. A non-negative screen should be sent for confirmation by GC-MS or LC-MS/MS, especially before any employment, legal or treatment decision. Medications and cross-reactivity can cause screening positives.

DOT. Federal DOT testing under 49 CFR Part 40 uses a lab-based process with a custody and control form, certified labs and a Medical Review Officer. It does not accept on-site rapid cups as the test of record. DOT panels are also not a simple 5 panel, so check current rules.

State and local laws on testing, notice and cannabis differ, so confirm requirements for your location.

    How to read results

    1. Check the device and expiration date, and let it reach room temperature if the insert says so.
    2. Collect the specimen and confirm the cup temperature strip, if present, falls in the stated range.
    3. Start the timer when the specimen touches the device, and read only within the window in the insert.
    4. Look for the control line (C). If it is missing, the test is invalid.
    5. Read each drug line. A line in the test region means negative. No line means non-negative (presumptive positive) for that drug.
    6. Record the result, then send non-negative samples for lab confirmation.

Faint lines: any visible test line, even a light one, is generally read as negative for that drug. Follow the insert. Invalid results: a missing control line, a result read after the window, or failed adulterant or temperature checks means you should retest with a new device.

    5 Panel Drug Test FAQ

What is a 5 panel drug test?

A 5 panel drug test is a screening test for five drug classes: marijuana (THC), cocaine, opiates, amphetamines and PCP. It is most often run on urine or oral fluid. Rapid versions give a presumptive result on site, and positives should go to a lab for confirmation.

How long does a 5 panel drug test take?

Most rapid urine cups and dip cards give results in about 5 minutes, and oral fluid devices usually take 5 to 10 minutes. Always read within the window in the package insert. Lab confirmation of a non-negative result takes longer and depends on the lab.

Does a 5 panel drug test detect alcohol or fentanyl?

Not by default. A standard 5 panel does not include alcohol, fentanyl, benzodiazepines or other classes. ASC carries expanded options, such as a 15 panel cup with fentanyl and an oral swab with an alcohol test, for programs that need broader coverage.

How much does a 5 panel drug test cost?

Cost depends on format, features such as adulterant strips, and order size. Per-test cost generally falls when you buy by the case. Check current product pages for pricing, or request a volume quote from ASC for large or recurring orders.

Where can I get a 5 panel drug test near me?

If you search for a 5 panel drug test near me, you may find clinics and labs that test individuals. If you need to test on site, buy the devices online from ASC. We ship same day, so clinics, employers and probation offices can stock tests and screen when needed.

How accurate is a 5 panel drug test?

Rapid tests are screening tools, and accuracy depends on the device, the cutoff, correct use and the drug involved. Cleared devices are evaluated against lab methods, but cross-reactivity and timing can affect results. Confirm any non-negative result with GC-MS or LC-MS/MS before acting on it.
