Drug testing is a common occurrence in work places, educational institutions, law enforcing agencies and health care centres to screen for illicit drugs in order to maintain safety. Different types of devices and tools are available to detect candidates for substances of abuse and drugs. Drug Test Cups and Drug Test Dip Cards are such devices which can detect up to 14 different drugs simultaneously.

Drug Test Cups:

The Drug test cups are used to screen for illicit drugs using enzyme immunoassay technique. Though a variety of samples such as urine, blood, hair, saliva and sweat can be used to detect drugs the most commonly used is urine sample. Hence it is also called as Urine Drug test Cups. In these cups urine can be collected directly without contact. These Drug screen cups are used for Point of Care Testing (POCT) and gives immediate results. The Urine drug test cups come with a temperature strip to check the temperature of the urine to verify whether it is adulterated or not. The result is indicated by coloured lines in the control and testing region. If the result is positive, then it has to be sent to the laboratory for further testing and conformation.

Drug Test Dip Cards:

Drug test dip cards are used to screen drugs and are available as multi drug test dip cards which can detect up to 14 different drugs. In this test the urine sample is collected in a sterile cup and then the drug dip cards are inserted into the cup. After few minutes the results can be viewed in the dip card.

Difference between Drug Test Cups and Drug Test Dip Cards:

  • The Urine drug test cups are manufactured with in-built testing strips with them, whereas a drug test dip card comes with a collection cup and a drug dip card separately which has to be inserted in the urine sample manually.
  • In the Urine drug test cup the tester need not come directly into contact with the urine sample and hence it is very convenient. But in the case of drug dip cards the tester should dip the card into the urine collection cup and may come into contact with urine which is highly infectious and also inconvenient.
  • Urine drug test cups are costlier than dip cards.

Though the drug test cups and dip cards have their own differences, both methods are accurate, reliable and give quick results. Also both drug test cups and dip cards have an expiry time of 24 months.
