DRUG TESTING SOLUTIONS IN CLINICAL SETTINGS

American Screening Corporation is one with laboratories, clinics, hospitals, along with other types of treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery centers, in advocating safe and proper patient care. To this end, we make sure that our tests yield results that are accurate, timely, and trustworthy.

Apart from providing screening kits for alcohol and illicit-drug use, we deliver products that help detect the presence of non-medically administered prescription drugs in the subjects.

Prescription drugs can be misused and abused, and the wrong consumption of such can lead to health complications or even death. The non-medical or recreational use of prescription drugs, particularly opioids, in the United States has become so rampant and deadly that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has referred to the situation as the “opioid overdose epidemic.”

Statistics on the Use, Misuse, and Abuse of Prescription Drugs in the US

  • In 2017, about 18 million people used prescription drugs non-medically or recreationally at least once.
  • Also in 2017, 14.4% of young adults (aged 18 to 25) and 4.9% of adolescents (aged 12 to 17) used prescription drugs non-medically or recreationally.
  • Every day, an estimated 5,480 Americans use prescription pain relievers non-medically or recreationally for the first time.
  • Every day, an estimated 4,110 Americans use prescription tranquilizers non-medically or recreationally for the first time.
  • Every day, an estimated 2,740 Americans use prescription stimulants non-medically or recreationally for the first time.
  • Every day, an estimated 738 Americans use prescription sedatives non-medically or recreationally for the first time.
  • Every day, about 130 Americans die from overdosing on either a prescription opioid or an illicit opioid.

Government Initiatives To Combat the Opioid Overdose Epidemic

The CDC works with state governments and Washington DC to deliver interventions that improve the opioid situation. One of the current prevention and control measures is the Prescription Drug-Monitoring Program (PDMP) being implemented at state level.

A PDMP is an electronic database that tracks the statewide prescriptions of controlled substances, and it involves the state’s health, insurance, and law enforcement departments; healthcare licensure boards; healthcare providers; and pharmacies.

A PDMP dispenses timely information on the prescribing behaviors of physicians and the prescription histories of patients, so health authorities can make a targeted and nimble response on any anomaly. It also gives insights to health care providers, so they can assess whether or not dosage reductions or total prescription revisions are necessary for patients in question.

Types of Tests We Offer for Clinical Management

American Screening contributes to the complete cure of the drug crisis, especially in measuring the effectiveness and success of PDMPs, and we do this by helping health care providers quickly detect the presence of drugs in the patients’ system.

Our safe, well-designed products comply with government regulations, and many of these are FDA-approved, CLIA-waived, CE-marked, and Health Canada-checked.

The types of substance tests are:

  • Urine Test Cups. These are technologically advanced and can tell if the patient being screened has taken certain prescription or illicit drugs within 72 hours of the test.
  • Urine Dip Cards. Like the Urine Test Cups, these can tell if the patient being screened has taken certain prescription or illicit drugs within 72 hours of the test.
  • Saliva Drug Tests. These are not as invasive and potentially messy as the Urine Drug Tests, which require a urinal or a private room for collecting samples. It can tell whether or not the patient being screened has taken certain prescription or illicit drugs within 24 hours of the test.

What American Screening Provides Clinics, Hospitals, and Laboratories

American Screening understands that laboratories, clinics, hospitals, along with other types of treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery centers across the country may not always have a large budget for patient alcohol and drug tests. This is why we deliver affordable, no-frills screening kits direct from the manufacturer.

We understand as well that the staff who perform the screening do not have the luxury of time to learn the complexities of drug testing, which is why we provide easy-to-use products with clear instructions. These give timely and accurate results.

To keep up with the times, we also offer screening kits for synthetic drugs like K2 (also known as “spice”) and fentanyl.

All our drug testing products conform to SAMHSA standards.
